SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET (18)

Tim
Burton directs Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in his extremely gory and
bloody adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, telling the infamous story of
Benjamin Barker, a.k.a Sweeney Todd. The eponymous barber returns to London with
vengeance on his mind, providing the ingredients for his neighbour Mrs Lovett's
pies, which once unpleasantly tasteless, become the toast of the town. Burton's
trademark gothic mise en scène complements this darkly comic tale carried by
the music and lyrics of Stephen Sonheim.

Back to Normandy (15)
The
latest film from the director of Etre Et Avoir is a poignant and touching
exploration of memory and the passage of time. In 1975, Nicolas Philibert was an
assistant director on a historical true-crime film, shot on location in Normandy
with a cast of non-professional actors. Thirty years later, he returns to the
tightly-knit farming community, to track down the locals who took part in the
original film and see what paths their lives have taken. 'The Director's finest
achievement to date', (London Film Festival).
