AXIS Festival 2008

On most Wednesday's Ray Johnson screens a variety of films from the Staffordshire Film Archive. In addition, April 16th sees the annual retrospective by the Stoke Cine & Video Society.

In addition, the Film Theatre has a number of events connected with the 2008 AXIS Festival.

"THE BURMA PLAY" A live theatre performance. The Burma Play takes a real life incident to conjure a country of absurdity and illusion, a golden land where street entertainers and stand-up comics face prison and torture for telling jokes. Presented by Chithra Ramakrishnan of Shruthi UK - an artist-led non-profit organization for South Asian Arts based in Staffordshire. Shruthi UK promotes Indian classical music and dance and Indian culture in the UK. The evening is a mixture of screening and performance.

FA Cup Final Special

. A documentary showing all the cinema newsreels of the FA Cup Finals from 1930 to 1953, plus a special 55th anniversary feature on the "Matthews" final of 1953 with Sir Stan's own reminiscences. Immediately prior to the 2008 FA Cup Final on May 17th.
